In a recent teaching by John and Lisa Bevere titled “How to Actually Fight Demons (and Win),” the two define a clear, practical guide for believers facing spiritual warfare today. They emphasized the importance of putting on the “whole armor of God,” as described in Ephesians 6, rather than engaging in battles on a purely human or political level.
“You’re dealing with something that you’ll never win if you don’t put on the whole armor of God,” John said. “Not the partial armor of God.”

“The sword of the Spirit isn’t just supposed to be studied. It’s supposed to be used,” Lisa added.
They explained that the real enemy operates not through flesh and blood but as the apostle Paul said, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. This means the real fight is not against people but against demonic forces seeking to destroy unity, especially within families and marriages.
The Beveres warn against wasting energy on quarrels that focus on race, gender or political figures. Instead, believers are called to focus on spiritual prayer and submission.
The armor of God is not just symbolic, it represents spiritual disciplines and practical actions Christians must take to stand firm. The belt of truth grounds us in God’s Word, which Jesus Himself declared as truth. The breastplate of righteousness means living in obedience to God’s commands, walking in the righteousness provided through Christ, empowered by His divine nature.
One of the most relatable pieces of the armor of God they talked about was the shoes of peace, which Lisa connected to the inner calm believers must choose in turbulent times. “You can choose what you allow to rule your life.”
The shield of faith, as they pointed out, is essential for extinguishing the fiery darts of the enemy. These darts often come as harmful words, criticism and accusations, especially on social media in today’s world. The two emphasize how words have power, just as Scripture tells us that “death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Faith is built by hearing and obeying God’s Word, and obedience is the highest form of spiritual warfare.
Next comes the helmet of salvation, which protects the mind by anchoring believers in the hope of Christ’s return and the resurrection of the body. This hope renews the mind and guards it from lies, fear and confusion, reminding believers of their identity and ultimate victory.

Finally, the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, is the weapon that Christians can use to defeat all power of the enemy because it is “alive and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword.”
Victory in spiritual warfare doesn’t come from emotion, argument or human strength, it comes through obedience, prayer and wielding the Word of God with authority. The battle is real, but so is the victory promised to those who fight God’s way.
